My name is Sukanto Kumar Roy and I am a resident of Mumbai. I am a post graduate engineer in Electronics & Telecommunications engineering with PGCGM from IIM Calcutta. Currently, I am pursuing my goals and hobbies for about last six months. My last assignment was Group CEO of an International Telecom Services Company spanning offices in USA, UK, Dubai, Nepal and Myanmar. My professional commitments required travelling to different parts of the world including about 5 years stint in US and UK. I am 64 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes about 20 years back.
Since then, I was under medication for Type 2 diabetes, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Vitamin supplements. The diabetes medication was oral and mostly revolved around Metformin group of medicines (no injected insulin). My fasting blood sugar varied between 140-200, PP between 160-220 and HbA1c between 6.4-7.2 with everyday medication twice daily. I am not obese and my BP and Cholesterol level was normal with daily medication. I was told by three diabetes specialists and endocrinologists that diabetes is an irreversible disease and one has to be under medication to keep the blood sugar level under control till the rest of his/her life, much like once you file an Income Tax return, you have to file it for rest of your life.
Little did I know that Type 2 diabetes is very much a reversible disease till I met Dr. Chandrashekhar Dound for a casual conversation for reducing my weight slightly. Dr. Dound explained to me in detail a) why Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease and is very much reversible without aid of any medicines; b) what the medicines including Insulin do to control the blood sugar temporarily and how they do that; c) what are the side effects of these medicines and how they affect your organs over a long period.
He then suggested that I should change my lifestyle including diet and exercise for an overall improvement of health and complete removal of diabetes. I was sceptical but he insisted to follow the prescribed diet and lifestyle for just three months. If it doesn’t lead to an overall improvement of health and mind, I can always go back to the earlier medication.
So, my journey started under his daily supervision on 21st January this year and today I have completed around 45 days of my journey without any medicines whatsoever. The journey consists of three basic things:-
- 1. Strict adherence to the dietary requirements suggested by Dr. Dound.
- 2. Regular exercise including weight training.
I have so far followed his prescribed diet strictly.
Now let me share my experience in brief. I stopped my medicines completely only on 3 rd day of starting his prescribed diet.
I have observed three major positive changes in my life:-
- 1) My diabetes has completely gone and I have thrown all my regular medicines out of the window. Gone were those days when I had to always worry about my sugar levels.
-
2) Within seven days of stopping the medicines and changing my diet and exercise, my energy level went up tremendously.
I was a regular gymmer earlier as well but I used to get tired very quickly and needed rest to continue my exercise. Now, since I wake up in the morning, till I go to bed, I feel full of energy and my regular exercise time and level have doubled than before without any fatigue.
- 3) My reflexes have gone up and so is my memory. Earlier I used to take at least 45 minutes to get ready after waking up as I was feeling lethargic but now in 15 minutes I am ready to go.
What is most important is that all these improvements including drop in my sugar level has happened quietly and quickly without any medicines.
To give you an example, my last blood sugar level with diabetes medicines were fasting blood sugar 200; PP Blood sugar 210 and HBa1c 7.2 as on 11th January this year.
Today, my fasting blood sugar level is between 100 and 110; PP between 120 and 140 and HBa1c is 6.0.
Isn’t it remarkable without any medication? It’s no rocket science, just plain and simple disciplined approach to your life.
I am immensely benefitted with the suggestions given by Dr. Dound and it has helped changing quality of my life.
I intend to continue it since I lost the challenge to Dr. Dound (I took it up as a challenge to prove him wrong in 3 months, but he took half the time to prove himself right).
Are you willing to take this journey and bring along the positive change in your lives?
Wish you all the best!!
